House rules

House rules are rules defined by an organiser of a BDSM play party to regulate the conduct of the guests attending the party. Typically, they are designed to ensure the safety of the guests, and to ensure that the equipment and rooms (dungeons) provided are available fairly to all the guests.

Dungeon monitors are appointed by the party organiser to ensure the rules are followed.

Typical rules include:

  • A dungeon monitor's verdict is final,
  • No play behind closed doors,
  • Respect other people's privacy. No talking about what you saw at a play party. No cameras. No recording devices,
  • Use of an individual room or dungeon limited to 30 minutes at a time,
  • All dungeons, rooms, and equipment must be cleaned by the guests after use,
  • No blood play,
  • Check before doing any fire play. Some organisers don't allow it, and it can be unsafe (or even illegal) at some venues,
  • Don't interrupt, interfere with, or get involved with other peoples' scenes without PRIOR agreement from them,
  • No alcohol or drugs,
  • Some party organisers allow sex at their parties, some don't. Ask before engaging in it,
  • All guests must respect the house or party safeword,
  • If you're going to do something unusual, clear it with a dungeon monitor or with the organiser first. If they see something they're uncertain about, they may stop you to ensure it's all safe. If you brief them beforehand, you can avoid the possible interruption.
