Electro play

Electrical stimulators typically come with a range of probes and attachments. Here we see a stimulator with a probe intended for vaginal or anal insertion
As shown here, one form of electrical play has the submissive connected to one electrode of a stimulator and their dominant to the other. The dominant can then use their fingers or other parts of their body to complete the circuit and allow current to flow through their submissive, such as through their nipple
Electro play (or electricity play) is the use of electricity as part of BDSM play.
Firstly, let me say that the use of electricity is potentially dangerous, even fatal (see report under "See also" below). Use with caution.
That said, there are two main devices which allow electrical stimulation to be used in BDSM play:
- Violet wand (and accessories) (see also sensation play)
- Electrical stimulators and T.E.N.S. units (also known as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator)
Radio-controlled dog collar
A third, less used, electrical device is the radio-controlled dog training collar. This is a small radio receiver and battery attached to a dog collar. Two electrodes extend from the receiver through the dog's fur and make contact with the skin on the dog's neck. When activated via the remote control the receiver administers a brief electrical shock to the dog. The more expensive versions of these collars offer a control range of hundreds of metres and up to ten different shock levels. Many receivers can emit a number of different audible tones in additional to shocks. These tones can be useful signals---such as "Come here!" or "Sit!"---instead of punishment or discipline.
In BDSM use these receivers can be attached to different parts of the submissive's or bottom's body. For example, the dog collar usually wraps neatly around a guy's genitals leaving the two electrodes pressed against the scrotum. Shocks can then be administered as desired.
With the aid of tape or when enmeshed into rope bondage the receiver's electrodes can press up against virtually any part of the body such as nipples, clitoris, etc.
Safety
Electro play is, of course, done with electricity and electricity can be harmful or fatal if not used safely.
In particular:
- Never wire up your partner with any device so that electric current passes through or near their heart. For example, avoid having an electrode in each hand because the current must pass between electrodes via the chest. Likewise, having an electrode on each nipple can also be problematical for the same reason.
- Water and moisture assist in conducting electricity, so something that's safe when conditions are dry may become very unsafe when it's wet. Even sweat can be a problem here.
