For different reasons, many people have inhibitions about sex. It may be body image, concerns about their ability to perform; or it may be related to their family upbringing (e.g., "good girls don't ..."), or may be related to poor experiences with previous partners, or may be related to abuse.
Hypnosis can be used to help overcome some inhibitions. It's important to realise that sometimes inhibitions serve a useful purpose---such as protecting someone from getting into situations they may later regret. However, in a solid relationship with a committed partner, inhibitions can sometimes get in the way of fully satisfying sex.
Hypnosis can help in a number of ways:
- Firstly, being in a hypnotic trance is a more relaxed and less inhibited state in the first place,
- Secondly, using fantasy and role-playing someone who is hypnotised can imagine themselves in situations where they would normally be less inhibited, such as imagining they are in a hotel instead of in their parent's house,
- Thirdly, post-hypnotic suggestions can help them carry the relaxation and lack of inhibition they feel while hypnotise into their love-making when they aren't hypnotised.
