The bi-weekly Niblet
Parties and feedback
====================
When a dominant or master is working with a submissive, particularly a
new submissive or when trying new activities, they rely very heavily on
feedback from the submissive to tell them how well they are achieving
the goals they've set both for themselves and for the submissive.
Feedback can be:
1) visual (sight), and covers the movements of the submissive, their
facial expressions, and subtle cues such as muscle tension, etc.,
2) auditory (sound), and isn't limited to words or commentary from the
submissive, but also includes grunts, moans, sounds of breathing, etc.,
3) olfactory (smell), which can be the smell of sweat, sexual arousal,
and so forth,
4) tactile (touch), including touching the submissive to determine level
of relaxation, level of arousal, and so on.
The closer to "the edge" the dominant is going, or the less familiar the
submissive is to him, the more he relies--indeed, needs--this feedback
so that he can determine "where" the submissive is.
Parties are usually not a good place to ride "the edge" or to push
limits. This is mainly because there is often loud music and/or dim
lighting, both of which diminish the effectiveness of the two main forms
of feedback. Also the reactions of a submissive will often be different
in public and in private, so what works well in private may work badly
in public.
